the past couple days in the garden.....
such a beautiful fall.....cleaned the roof and gleaned several buckets of needles to the side yard trail....mike's recent load from his fall clean up had a beautiful bouquet....so wondraful....mike lived across the street (several years ago) and when he was preparing to burn a big pile one day i went and asked if, instead, i could have his waste. he was very agreeable and asked if i wanted his lawn clippings as well. it was a win-win.....then he moved away...after he was gone a couple of years he came back to see if i still wanted yard waste. now he delivers when he has a truck load and dumps it in my compost area. it's still a win-win!!!!!!!

bring back the good republicans....i grew up in a republican household....we liked Ike....i was 5yo and 13yo when he made these speeches.
Chance for Peace (April 16, 1953)
Dwight David Eisenhower
Eisenhower gives this speech before the American Society for Newspaper Editors, shortly after the death of Joseph Stalin. It is also known as the "Cross of Iron" speech. The President contrasts the Soviet Union's post-World War II doctrine as one of force, while the United States pursued peace and cooperation in the world. He notes that the belligerence of the Soviet Union brought free nations together to avoid atomic war, and he challenges the new Soviet leadership to reject Stalin's style of governance.

Farewell Address (January 17, 1961)
Dwight David Eisenhower
Eisenhower again calls for peace, but, acknowledging that new crises arise, cautions the United States to maintain balance in its relations. He also also warns against the rising power of the military-industrial complex that could threaten the democratic process.
